What is Mindful Breastfeeding?
Mindful breastfeeding is a new way of thinking and practicing breastfeeding. Just like in birth, we need oxytocin to flow for our bodies to respond. Oxytocin is the hormone that helps the let down happen when breastfeeding and this is released when we feel connected and calm.
So just like hypnobirthing will help us feel calm for birth, practicing mindful techniques such as breathing and meditation can help us to relax and therefore allow our bodies to respond accordingly. Breastfeeding is not an easy task in the early days. The more we are prepared for it the more likely we are to reach our goals, whether that be to exclusively breastfeed or to breastfeed and use formula.
